Splashing into the new year are the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018), Samsung’s new mid-range selfie-centric smartphones. 

With a dual 16MP and 8MP f1.9 front camera set up and Live Focus feature much like its cousins in the flagship line up, the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) allows for varied selfies and adjustable background blur. The f1.9 front camera and f1.7 16MP rear camera will do just fine in low-light conditions as well.

Both the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) are IP68 water and dust resistance so whether you’re having fun and taking underwater pool selfies or on the go and need to answer calls in a downpour, both phones will have no issues performing. 

For those who want a vlog of their holidays or just grabbing coffee with friends, video digital image stabilisation (vDIS) technology ensures that your footage isn’t shaky and the hyperlapse feature will make time-lapse videos a doddle.

The A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) are equipped with Samsung Pay, Bixby, dual messenger and have expandable storage via SD card slot. 

The Galaxy A8 (2018) measures in at 5.6in with a Super AMOLED screen, 4GB RAM under the hood, 32 GB of built-in storage and has a 3000mAh battery. In contrast, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has a 6in Super AMOLED screen, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on board. It doesn't look like there's much of a difference when both phones are held but perhaps mobile gamers would prefer the larger screen, RAM and built-in storage of the A8+ (2018). 

Both will be made available on 19 January for RM1799 and RM2499 respectively in Black, Gold and Orchid Gray. Early bird rewards include a free 10,000mAh battery pack with Type-C connector (RM228) and a 64GB memory card (RM189), available at all participating outlets from 19 January to 21 January, while stocks last.
