Sketch Of Nokia’s Android Flagship With Five Lenses Leaks

A sketch of HMD’s rumored Nokia flagship with five rear lenses leaked online earlier today, having originated from the same source that first claimed the said device is scheduled to be released later this year. The image seen above shows a camera setup similar to that of the 2013 Lumia 1020, Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 handset which featured a 41-megapixel sensor and six lenses. The upcoming smartphone is said to have five lenses and two LED flashes on its back panel, all being designed to support its unspecified sensor. The source speculates that the device may be advertised as the Nokia 10 but made no claims suggesting they have any direct knowledge of its official moniker. The top left module depicted in the sketch is said to be a flash unit, the top right one is described as a non-imaging sensor, and the remaining five circles supposedly depict lenses.

A circular fingerprint reader is located beneath the circular camera module of the rumored handset, according to the same sketch. The device will supposedly feature a relatively bezel-free design but is unrelated to the Nokia 9, another HMD-designed phone that’s expected to feature a similar aesthetic and be commercialized later this year. The minimal bezels of the leaked smartphone are said to be coupled by a display panel featuring a tall aspect ratio of 18:9, i.e. 2:1. The same image format gained significant traction in the mobile industry over the course of 2017 but HMD has yet to adopt it with any of its products. The handset will reportedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 that’s expected to be the most popular choice among Android flagships released in 2018. The source reiterated that the device with a pentuple-camera setup won’t be unveiled at HMD’s late February conference meant to be held in the run-up to the latest iteration of the Mobile World Congress. The Finnish firm recently confirmed its next set of products will be unveiled in an “awesome” manner but has yet to elaborate on the matter.

As Samsung is already said to have reserved the initial batches of the Snapdragon 845, the mysterious photography-focused Nokia device is unlikely to be able to enter mass production before mid-2018 at the earliest, much like the rest of Android devices set to be powered by the same system-on-chip. The smartphones that are the most likely to be unveiled by HMD next month are the Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 mid-rangers, entry-level Nokia 1, and the Nokia 9 flagship, in that order.
